WHAT IS HAWAIIAN HUNA ?

In the Polynesian languages the word Huna, to use it in its Hawaiian pronunciation, means that which is hidden and refers specifically to knowledge of the spiritual nature of man and his place within the universe. Huna offers a unique, specific and detailed approach to spiritual development. In Max Freedom Long's exploration of Huna in the first half of the 20th century he described it as a 'psycho-spiritual system', one of our favourite definitions of Huna, which is perhaps simpler, is that it is the pre-eminent system of natural magic existing in the world today. In terms of the Western magical philosophies it is a system of high magic because it emphasizes spiritual growth and understanding as opposed to the manipulation of events. It is used in the sense of 'power for' rather than exerting personal 'power over' the natural worlds.

Our own experience of Huna came about through a profound spiritual awakening that took place in the Winter of 1984 when we were overwhelmed by a direct contact with a Hawaiian Kahuna who lived on Kauai circe 600AD.

Read the newly published (September 2003) story of the spiritual journey that brought us to Huna, entitled 'A Promise Kept' by Morag Campbell. Available from all good bookstores (isbn 0954445015) or by mail direct from us. Click here to order.

We have studied Huna and Hawaiian healing work directly with Serge Kahili King, Haleakala Hew Len and with senior students of Tad James and various teachers of Max Freedom Long's work. We also have direct experience of the work of Abraham Kawai'i and Aunty Margaret Machado. Our work with other living Huna teachers was simply to validate or discredit the information we had already received in a more direct fashion.

Our ultimate finding is that all other systems of Huna that are being taught openly are either corrupt in that they are overly influenced by other Western esoteric models or they are too simplistic. The work that we teach 'Huna Mua' is pure and original and dating from a much earlier period in Hawaiian history. It is our understanding that this pure Huna teaching is still being taught in the Islands but not openly and has historically only been taught only to women.

It might seem strange that we were born and live in England and yet have a direct connection to Hawaii. Yet in 1999 Kupuna Aunty Angeline Loocey of Kauai said of Phil "I have no doubt that my ancestors speak through him".
